So. I’m a foreign student, a.k.a. international student.

It seems nice at first, like, new culture, new people, new EVERYTHING! But, reality isn’t as good as first impressions are.

And don’t mistake it for me hating a country I’m in - no, I love this country, but thing is, international students by their nature are the most lonely social group in university.

Why? Cause you’re basically starting out fresh. You don’t have an established friend group here, and I’m not even talking about support network. Surely, you still talk to your parents and friends through internet or whatnot, but, that’s not it.

Sometimes I might even look at natives here and be a bit envious, but not the bad kind like “I wish I had a laptop like his” or something else, no.

I just wish I had a friendgroup here.

And sure, you might say, my dear reader: “But, there are other people that are also international students and look for friends!”

And you’re right, but thing is, its mostly Erasmus students, and they’re here for a short period of time. And yes, they’re still amazing but, those friendships do not last.

Maybe I just wish too much sometimes, or not, it’s not up to me or you to judge.

So, yeah. I guess I needed to put this out somewhere. And listen here, I do not want you to be sad for me, I’m a big guy, I can handle things like this. But maybe this will help some aspiring international students to get ready mentally.

Peace out.
